Getting Around

Getting around from your temporary housing in San Francisco isn't hard to do. By train or trolley, you'll have no problem traveling from place to place. So head on out to Alcatraz, Castro or Haight-Ashbury and see all the city has to offer during your stay in San Francisco temporary housing.

Public Transportation

Your San Francisco temporary housing will not leave you far from the city's public transportation system. Known at the Muni (short for San Francisco Municipal Railway), the city's public transportation system covers 46.7 square miles and services over 700,000 rides on a typical weekday. The Muni includes motor coaches, trolley coaches, streetcars and cable cars, including the city's historic cable cars and streetcars. The Muni's website contains fares, maps, schedules and other important information.

San Franciscans also ride the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) regularly. The BART's 43 train stations run from the suburbs to the city and cover over 100 square miles. Caltrain, also located nearby to many corporate apartments, services the city and has 33 train stations from San Francisco to Gilroy.

If you're traveling from your temporary housing in San Francisco across the Bay, the city also offers ferries as a means of transportation. Many use the ferries in their daily commute, as commuter ferries run between San Francisco and Alameda, Oakland, Vallejo and Tiburon.

Driving

If you can't wait to get in your car and ride down the crooked Lombard Street or cruise across the Golden Gate Bridge, you'll want to get familiar with the San Francisco roads. Due to San Francisco's hilly landscape, the city has more of a European feel, with more bridges than beltways. Venturing out from your San Francisco temporary housing, you'll find some of the following highways:

  • Interstate 80: Runs west to east from the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge to Sacramento and onto Reno
  • Interstate 280 and U.S. Highway 101: Major highways which connect San Francisco to San Jose. Interstate 280 is more scenic, while U.S. Highway 101 is more urban
  • Route 1 and 35: Connects Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Francisco

There are many rental cars available in San Francisco for your stay in temporary housing. San Francisco car rental agencies include Avis, Enterprise, Budget and many more.
Taxicabs

If you're without a car in your serviced rental, you can opt to get around by taxicab. The San Francisco Taxicab Commission aims for prompt and courteous taxicab service and represents over 30 taxicab companies in the area. Whether you're catching a ride back to your San Francisco temporary housing from a night on the town or on your way to a business lunch, San Francisco cabs can get you where you need to go.
