Getting Around

Traveling around the city is easy to do from your Baltimore temporary housing. Whether you plan on utilizing public transportation or driving around town in your own car, read on to learn the ins and outs of getting around the Baltimore area.

Public Transportation

The Maryland Transit Administration transports city residents around the Baltimore area in many capacities. The system includes local buses, metro subways, light rail, commuter buses and the MARC train, which connect together, making it easy for Baltimore temporary housing residents to travel around the city. In total, the system carries over 92 million residents a year. The Maryland Transit Administration's website contains maps, fare information and schedules.

Also serving temporary housing residents is the Amtrak train, which runs up and down the east coast. The city has one of the oldest water-based public transportation systems and water taxis still carry Baltimore residents across the bay.

Driving

Many Baltimore residents drive around the city, so if you plan to bring your car to your temporary housing in Baltimore, you'll fit right in. Grab a map book and take note of some of the city's major roads.

  • I-95: Interstate runs north and south through Baltimore by route of the Fort McHenry tunnel
  • I-195: Runs east/west to link I-95 to Baltimore Washington Airport
  • I-295: The Baltimore Washington Parkway runs north and south between Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
  • I-395: Runs north and south to downtown Baltimore from I-95.
  • I-695: Also known as the Baltimore Beltway, this highway circles the city
  • I-895: Highway to bypass downtown Baltimore which runs through the Harbor tunnel
  • I-83: Connects from downtown Baltimore to the Baltimore Beltway and up to Pennsylvania
  • I-97: Links Annapolis to the Baltimore Beltway

If you are looking to rent a car while in your corporate apartment, you'll have many options to choose from during your stay in your temporary housing in Baltimore. Agencies such as Hertz, Avis, Enterprise and many others operate in the greater Baltimore area.
Taxicabs

Out for a night in Fell's Point? Running late for a business lunch? Baltimore temporary housing residents can take advantage of Baltimore's taxicabs and can take the worry out of driving, finding a parking spot, etc. The Maryland Public Service Commission regulates the city's taxicab fleet. Over 1,100 cabs operate throughout the city. Instead of hailing taxicabs, many Baltimore residents call the taxicab company ahead of time to request a pick-up. Area taxicab companies include Diamond Cab, Arrow Cab, Emerald Cab Co. and Checker Cab Association, among others.

Limousines

For business or for fun, you may find yourself looking for a limousine while in your temporary housing. Baltimore has many limousine agencies to choose from, so get ready to ride in style! Limousine services include American Limousines, Inc., Baltimore by Request, Carey Limousine and ZBest Limousine Service Inc.

Airports

The majority of Baltimore residents fly out of Baltimore/Washington Airport (locally known as BWI), when they are headed out of town. For additional flight options while in temporary housing, you can also look to Ronald Reagan National Airport, located just outside of Washington, D.C. or Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia.
